Aural Pal

Aural Pal helps you practise the aural test for your graded music exam, a few minutes at a time, from Grade 1 right up to Grade 8.

It doesn't just play the questions. It listens back. Sing an echo and it hears whether you got the notes right. Clap the pulse and it checks you stayed in time. Then it tells you what to work on next.

EVERY TEST, JUST LIKE THE EXAM
• Clap the pulse: join in with a real piece of music and say whether it's in 2, 3 or 4 time.
• Echoes: three short tunes in a row, sung straight back in time, as in the exam. Aural Pal hears your pitch and rhythm and shows you where you slipped.
• Spot the change: hear a phrase twice and say what changed, and where.
• Musical features: dynamics, articulation, tempo, major or minor, and at higher grades character, style and period, and texture.
• Higher grades: sing a melody or a part back from memory, sight-sing from the stave (treble or bass clef, your choice), clap back rhythms, and name cadences, chords and modulations.

NOT SURE WHAT TO DO? HEAR AN EXAMPLE
Each test explains how it works in the exam, in plain English, and "Play me an example" lets you hear someone do it first.

PRACTISE, THEN TEST
Practise mode lets you hear things again, slow them down and get hints. Test mode runs it like the real thing. When you're ready, the mock test takes you through the whole aural test in exam order.

FRESH EVERY TIME
Tunes are made new each time and listening pieces come from over 100 pieces of real piano music, from Bach to Joplin, so you won't be memorising the answers.

SEE YOURSELF IMPROVE
Progress shows the days you've practised, how each test is going, and the one thing to work on next.
