ConcreteMix: Bags Pour

ConcreteMix takes the shape you are pouring and tells you how many bags to buy. Choose a slab, a footing, a rectangular column or a cylinder, type the dimensions, set the bag weight you buy, and it returns the bag count with the cost, and the volume in cubic yards and cubic metres.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
- Pour four shapes: slab, footing, rectangular column and cylinder, with the cylinder taken from a diameter rather than a side.
- Work in feet with the thickness in inches, or in metres with the thickness in centimetres.
- Set how many of the same pour you are doing, so twelve identical deck footings are one calculation.
- Add a waste percentage for spillage and over-excavation. The field starts at 10 percent.
- Read the volume in cubic yards and cubic metres at the same time, so the number matches whichever supplier you are talking to.
- Choose your bag weight in pounds or kilograms, 40, 60 and 80 pound bags included.
- Get the bag count rounded up, and the total cost at your price per bag.

HOW THE BAG COUNT IS WORKED OUT
An 80 pound bag of mix yields about 0.6 cubic feet, and the app scales that yield proportionally for any other weight you enter, which puts a 60 pound bag at about 0.45 and a 40 pound bag at about 0.30 cubic feet. A weight in kilograms is converted to pounds first. Volume with waste is divided by that yield and rounded up. That is the figure that matters at the counter, because bags do not come in halves.

For a bigger pour, the cubic yard figure this gives you is the number to read out to a ready-mix supplier.
