Description by Steffen Kilian(from the App Store)
How loud is your car at 70 mph, really? Are your new tires quieter than the old ones? Does sound deadening actually work? Is that roar wind or tires? How much noise reaches your ears under your motorcycle helmet?
dB Ride is a decibel meter that records your GPS speed while it measures. You don't just see how loud it is – you see at what speed, and since version 1.3 also at which frequencies. Perfect for a cabin noise test, a road noise test or a tire noise comparison.
Pro measuring tech, not a toy: levels per IEC 61672 (A/C/Z, Fast/Slow, Leq), 1/3-octave analysis like a sound level meter, noise dosimeter and noise log – features usually found in paid apps. In dB Ride it's all in one app, free and without ads.
COMPLETELY FREE – NO ADS • No ads, no in-app purchases, no subscription • No account, no tracking – your recordings stay on your device • Every feature included: compare up to 8 recordings, frequency analysis, dosimeter, CSV and PDF export
MEASURE CAR CABIN NOISE • Live sound level in dB(A) and speed on one gauge • Noise by speed: average level per speed band as a bar chart • Route on a map, every point with noise level and speed • The noise meter keeps measuring with the screen locked • Spoken readouts, no dialogs while you drive
COMPARE TIRES, SOUND DEADENING AND HELMETS • Tire noise test: winter vs. summer tires, old vs. new • Humming that rises with speed? Tire noise or wheel bearing – noise and frequency by speed help you narrow it down • Sound deadening before and after: measure road noise before and after butyl mats • Motorcycle helmet noise test: how loud is it at 60 mph, which helmet is quieter? • EV: wind noise and road noise without engine noise • Compare up to 8 recordings – chart, dB difference and comparison by speed band • Battle Mode: which car, tire or helmet is quietest?
FREQUENCY ANALYSIS: WIND OR TIRES? • Live 1/3-octave spectrum from 25 Hz to 16 kHz, spectrogram and dominant frequency • Frequency by speed: does the wind share or the tire share grow with speed? • Before/after frequency comparison: where did the sound deadening work – on the boom or the roar? • Pro values: LAF, LAS, LAeq, LAFmax/LAFmin, LCpeak, L10/L50/L90 • Switch A, C and Z weighting right on the meter screen
EXPORT & SHARE • Result right after saving, share it as an image – with noise by speed and frequencies • CSV export with raw data for Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets • PDF report with chart, map and readings
PLUS: PRO TOOLS • Noise dosimeter for occupational noise: dose, TWA / LEX,8h and time left per OSHA, NIOSH or EU, runs in the background, PDF report • Long-term measurement as a noise log: hours of minute values, events above a threshold, day/night analysis, PDF and CSV – e.g. for neighbour or construction noise • Level alarm by vibration or notification • App shortcuts via long-press on the app icon
ALSO A FULL SOUND LEVEL METER • Measure noise at home, at work, at concerts, on construction sites or from appliances • Frequency weighting per IEC 61672, Fast and Slow time weighting, min / average (Leq) / max • Calibration assistant with a reference meter (±30 dB) and device profiles per phone model • "How does dB Ride measure?" shows microphone source, weighting and calibration • Decibel chart: what do 70, 85 or 100 dB mean?
Note: phone microphones are not calibrated instruments. For before/after comparisons with the same phone in the same position this dB meter is very meaningful. The noise dosimeter and noise log are for guidance and as a memory aid – not a measurement to ISO 9612 or OSHA monitoring rules, not an expert report.
