A scion of the dynasty of Chassidus Slonim; cultivated by his Rebbi, Rav Mottel Tzukerman zt”l; molded by his grandfather, Rav Chaim Stein zt”l Rosh Hayeshiva of Telz; and having breathed in the air of Slabodka from his great-grandfather, Rav Yakov Yitzchak Ruderman zt”l, Rav Sheftel is a truly unique combination of mesorah. That, compounded by a broad education and an analytical mind, has produced a mix that makes him especially popular to Undergraduate and Graduate aged students. Challenges face them: they face challenges, and Rav Sheftel offers them solid, no-nonsense answers, explanations, and tools, enabling them to persevere and grow. Poised and articulate, Rav Sheftel has presented the Torah view on a wide range of subjects, to a broad-spectrum of audiences. Cold rational coupled with a fiery refusal to see the Torah placed on the defendant's stand, have made him a formidable proponent of Torah truth. His I have a question: I have an answer open discussions have given hundreds of disillusioned teens and adults a new appreciation and enthusiasm for their Jewishness. Questions range from the basics: Shabbos, T’fillah, Ma’amad Har Sinai, to the more eclectic: Korbanos, Tumah and Tahara. All are explained by the logical methodology that has become his hallmark.

“SOPHISTICATED ANSWERS FOR SOPHISTICATED QUESTIONS” is Rav Sheftel Weinberg’s life pursuit. Inspired and taught by his grandfather, Rav Ya’akov Weinberg zt“l, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Ner Yisroel in Baltimore, Rav Sheftel has been applying this ‘Mission Statement’ to all of his learning and teaching endeavors. The demand for excellence, clarity, and knowledge, both from himself and his students, is the central theme of all his shiurim. His shiurim in Iyun, Beki’us, and The Rambam’s Sefer Hamitzvos are regarded as works of art, in terms of both depth and clarity. The approach to Chumash is the same. His weekly Parsha shiur, designed to show the profundity and perfection of Chumash, is, in the words of one participant: “an experience!”
