The FIRE plan (Financial Independence, Retire Early) is a personal finance strategy aimed at achieving financial independence as quickly as possible, so you can retire early and live off your savings and investments. One of the key principles of FIRE is the “4% rule.” The 4% rule suggests that if you save and invest enough money, you can withdraw 4% of your total savings each year without running out of money during retirement. For example, if you want to retire and live off your investments, you would need to save up 25 times your expected annual expenses. If you have $1,000,000 saved, you could withdraw $40,000 a year (4% of $1,000,000) and theoretically live off that for the rest of your life without depleting your savings. The 4% rule isn’t foolproof, as market conditions can change, but it provides a rough guideline for planning FIRE.
