FlowType turns reading practice into typing practice. A Japanese line appears, you type its reading in romaji, and the kana fill in as you go. Eyes, ears and fingers all work the same line at the same time — which is why it stays.
WHAT YOU PRACTICE
• Hiragana and katakana, from the very first character
• Kanji by school grade, the way Japan teaches it
• JLPT N5 through N1 vocabulary
• Textbook courses: Minna no Nihongo, Shin Standard Japanese
• Whole sentences from readers and real material
22 courses, 84,000 lines in all.
HOW IT WORKS
• Type romaji, see kana. No IME to set up, no keyboard to switch.
• Hit a wrong letter? Keep going. The cursor comes back for it at the end of the line, so your rhythm never breaks.
• Every line is read aloud in a real human voice, so you hear it while you type it.
• Star a word you keep missing. It comes back on a spaced schedule — and the review is typing too.
• Grammar notes sit under the line and explain the exact piece you just typed, clause by clause. English notes cover Minna no Nihongo Intermediate I and II so far; more are being written.
PROGRESS THAT ADDS UP
• A daily goal from 5 to 60 minutes
• Streaks, points and a daily leaderboard
• Progress, starred words and streaks sync with flowtype.ai, so you can start on the train and finish at a keyboard
FLOWTYPE PRO
Free gives you kana, N5, N4 and five more courses in full. Pro unlocks the remaining 14 — JLPT N3 to N1 and the textbook series — plus the grammar notes and unlimited narration.
Pro is an auto-renewing subscription, monthly or yearly. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. It renews automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Manage or cancel it in Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions.
