FreeCell: How Hard Is It?

I made this FreeCell to play myself. No subscription, no account, nothing to sign up for. Deal #1 lays out exactly the way it did in 1992, and so do the other 31,999.

EVERY DEAL IS RATED BEFORE YOU START
Other FreeCell games promise you a winnable deal. Nearly every deal is winnable, so that promise says nothing. So I made this one play each deal out in the background and grade it — Easy, Normal, Hard, Very hard. Ask for a hard deal and it goes looking until it finds you one. No other FreeCell tells you how hard a deal is before you open it.

A RECORD THAT REMEMBERS THE DEAL, NOT THE SESSION
Everything is kept by deal number. Deal #617 knows you have opened it three times, cleared it on the third in 97 moves and 8:41, without a single undo. Personal bests, a calendar of the days you played, the run of days you are on now, and a month-by-month table of how it has been going.

THE CONQUEST MAP
All 32,000 deals on one screen, one dot each — cleared, played, never opened. Tap a dot to open that deal. It points you at the stretch you are closest to finishing and the widest gap you have left. There is exactly one deal in the classic 32,000 that cannot be won, and the app tells you before you start it.

WHERE IT WENT WRONG
Stuck with no moves left? The app looks back through every move you made, finds the last position from which the deal could still have been won, and offers to take you there. I wanted to know that every time I lost, so I built it.

THE BOARD TELLS YOU WHAT IT KNOWS
• How many cards you can move right now, written under the board. Moving a run is really the app carrying cards one at a time through your free cells and empty columns, so the number changes as those fill up. Most apps highlight cards instead, and the highlight lies.
• Hold a card before you let go and it shows you where it would land. Drag it instead, and every spot that can take it lights up at once.
• Unlimited undo. Cards no column can still need go home on their own, and one tap sends up the rest.
• A hint when you want one, from a solver that actually plays the deal out.

MADE FOR A PHONE, IN ONE HAND
Portrait, with every button within reach of a thumb. Three sounds and three taps you can tell apart — a card landing, a card reaching home, a spot that will not take it. The silent switch turns the sounds off and whatever you are listening to keeps playing. Light and dark follow your phone. Reduce Motion is obeyed rather than re-asked in a settings screen.

WHAT IT DOES NOT DO
No subscription. No account. I left out the daily quotas, the badges, and the XP that chases you. Your board and your records table never leave the phone — the app reports only which deal, whether you cleared it, in how many moves.
