Le kebab est une pile de viande était autrefois rôti horizontalement avant que la posture verticale ne soit inventée en 1867 par Iskender Efendi originaire de la ville de Bursa (Turquie) , il raconte dans sa biographie datant du 19eme siècle que lui et son grand-père Hafiz Omer Efendi ont eu l’idée de rôtir l’agneau à la verticale plutôt qu’à l’horizontale afin que le gras issu de la cuisson coule en se répartissant sur la viande lui donnant ainsi un meilleur goût depuis Hafiz Omer Efendi est considéré comme l’inventeur du Döner Kebab
