Description by EMILY LOUISE HON CASTELLANOS(from the App Store)
HAI Compass is a companion app for people living with a hepatic artery infusion (HAI) pump, and a clinical reference for the teams who manage their care.
An HAI pump delivers chemotherapy directly to the liver. It has no display and no alarm, so between refill visits patients have had no way to see where they are in treatment. HAI Compass fills that gap. It has no electronics, and the app does not connect to it; HAI Compass tracks what you and your care team enter.
FOR PATIENTS AND CAREGIVERS
Refill countdown HAI pumps are refilled on a strict 14-day schedule. The countdown tracks your next refill and reminds you as it approaches, with reminders that escalate if the date is close or has passed.
Symptom tracking A daily check-in tuned to HAI therapy. Log how you are feeling, and see your trends over time. Symptoms that may need prompt attention are flagged with clear guidance to contact your care team.
Lab tracking Record your liver function tests and any other labs you choose to follow, and see how they move between visits.
Travel mode Altitude and body temperature change how the pump flows. Travel mode provides a pre-travel checklist and tracks altitude during your trip.
Education Plain-language chapters on HAI therapy, the pump, and living with it, at the reading level you prefer.
Device ID card An in-app version of your pump card, including MRI-conditional status, for appointments and emergencies.
Companion access Invite a family member or caregiver to follow along, with the level of access you choose. You stay in control.
FOR CLINICIANS
A separate, clinician-gated section provides dosing reference tools for HAI teams: a floxuridine dose calculator that implements published protocols, a flow-rate tool, clinical references, and per-pump cycle records.
The calculator shows its work. Before a result is presented, it lays out the values entered and the method applied, so the calculation can be checked. It reports a calculated result from the selected published protocol using the values entered. It does not determine the dose to prescribe or administer. The treating clinician remains responsible for the final order and treatment decision.
HOW YOUR DATA IS HANDLED
Your information is encrypted in transit and at rest and stored under a HIPAA Business Associate Agreement with Google Cloud. Your name is never stored in readable form in our cloud database, and pump serial numbers are stored only as an irreversible cryptographic hash. You can delete your account and its data from inside the app.
ABOUT THIS APP
HAI Compass is informational. Patient-facing features support education, scheduling, and recordkeeping; they do not diagnose, and they do not tell you what treatment to take. Always contact your care team with questions about your care.
