Inkblotter turns iPhone Duo into the paper. Ink one page, shut the phone, and the print spreads from the spine as the hinge closes. Open it again and strands of wet ink stretch and snap across the fold, with the feel and sound of paper and ink under your fingers. While the phone is closed, its cover is a plain blue-black notebook.
Then say what you see. A Victorian Examiner, a kindly gentleman-scientist of the 1880s, writes your reading in his casebook: what your answer says about you, part by part, and why the old examiners read it that way.
THE FOLD
• Unlimited ink in six period colors: blue-black, sepia, Prussian blue, verdigris, gamboge and mauve
• Tap to drop, hold still to pour, drag to smear
• Real folded-ink physics: lobes, feathered veins and a dark seam where the ink meets the crease
• Every blot is yours alone, and no two are alike
THE READING
• Every reading explains itself: the word of your answer it turns on, what the old examiners made of it, and what it says about you
• Written on your iPhone. Where Apple Intelligence is available, it adds the Examiner's own verdict on you
• Grounded in more than a century of inkblot research, from Justinus Kerner's 1857 klecksography to the modern studies, leaning on what has held up and never diagnosing
• The Examiner remarks on the blot itself too: its holes, its spatter, how boldly you poured
• Share your blot and its reading as a keepsake card
THE TEN PLATES
• Sit for the ten inkblots Hermann Rorschach published in 1921, one plate at a time
• Say what you see, then turn the page: what most people saw, how he would have marked your answer, what later examiners claimed, and whether any of it held up
• Close with your own scoring sheet, tallied the way he tallied his sitters
• On iPhone Duo it opens as a book: the plate on one page, its story on the other
AN 1800s BOOK
• A blue-black notebook that opens on marbled endpapers and turning leaves
• Book-proportioned pages and Bodoni type, set light and large
• Ink that dries the way real ink does, with cloudy washes and darker rims
• Ink edges whose roughness matches the fractal edges of Rorschach's own plates
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No account, no sign-in, no server. Nothing you draw or type leaves your phone unless you share it.
MADE FOR IPHONE DUO, OPEN TO EVERYONE
On iPhone Duo, the phone is the paper. On every other iPhone and iPad, an on-screen Fold button folds the page over, so anyone can play.
Inkblotter is entertainment, inspired by Hermann Rorschach's 1921 inkblot test. It is not a psychological assessment, is not affiliated with the Rorschach test or its publishers, and can't tell you anything clinical about yourself.
