Make real Dutch cheese at home, the way it is made in the land of Gouda.

The Kaasmaakapp ("kaas maken" is Dutch for "making cheese") was created in the Netherlands by a home cheesemaker who learned from Dutch cheesemakers, and kept running into the same problems: keeping track of time and timers, reading the instructions again and again with her hands in the curd, and all the calculations. How much milk fits in your mould? How much culture and rennet goes with it? How much whey do you drain, and how much water do you add?

The Kaasmaakapp does all of that for you.

STEP BY STEP
You see the step you are on, and what to get ready for the next step. The timers run by themselves, as a big sticker on screen: when time is up, the app beeps, even when your phone is locked. Choose when you start and you see when each step falls, so you are not busy in the middle of the night. The screen stays on while you work.

THE RIGHT AMOUNTS
Enter the size of your cheese mould, how much milk you have, or how much cheese you want to make. The app works everything out: milk, culture, rennet, calcium chloride, salt, how much whey to drain and how much water to add, and even the temperature of the wash water, the pressing weight and the brining time. Using rennet as powder, granules or tablets? The app converts that too.

RECIPES
Classic Dutch Gouda with washed curd, plus Feta, Mozzarella, Ricotta, Paneer, Halloumi, Camembert and Cheddar, and also yoghurt, quark and butter, with clear steps. Adapt a recipe until it is just right, even while you are making it, and save it as your own version. Or start a recipe of your own.

YOUR CHEESE MOULDS
Add your own cheese moulds to the app, with a photo if you like. Choose which moulds you use for a recipe, even several at once, and the app works out how much milk fits in them. Each recipe also shows which moulds from the Dutch shop Hobbykaas suit it.

SHOPPING AND PANTRY
Tick what you still need to buy and add it to your shopping list in one tap. Keep track of how much culture, rennet and salt you have at home: each recipe shows whether you have enough, and what you use is deducted automatically.

MY CHEESES
Every cheese goes into your log, with the ripening date, the weight and your notes. You get a reminder when it is time to turn the cheese, and a notification on the day it is ripe. And there is a little party for your first, fifth and tenth cheese.

After the free trial you choose a monthly or yearly subscription. Payment is charged to your Apple ID. The subscription renews automatically unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the period in your Apple account settings.
