‘Designed to help people who have difficulty verbally communicating to communicate’ 

KarlSpeech is an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) App which can be used by people with autism, down syndrome, cerebral palsy and many other conditions that hinder the ability to communicate. The current version of the KarlSpeech App is available on Apple iOS devices only and in the English language. KarlSpeech is available on iPhone, iPad and iPod.

We asked healthcare professionals including Speech Pathologists to use a prototype version of the App and requested constructive feedback. We designed a working prototype which was evaluated by Speech Pathologists and Care Professionals in the United States, Canada, Australia, Ireland & the UK. We listened to the feedback, implemented it, redesigned the App - and now it has become the current KarlSpeech App.

How to use the KarlSpeech App

Simply take images using your mobile device and associate the relevant text you want spoken for you. That's it! Of course, to get the best out of the KarlSpeech App, it is worth spending some time initially to organize your Categories / Groups. This way you can build up a library of frequently used terms that will be available at a touch.

The App has a Monthly Subscription with a discounted Annual Subscription. The KarlSpeech App is priced in the United States at USD 9.99 per month and USD 99.99 per annum. In other regions the appropriate App Store Tier 10 Pricing will apply depending on your geographical location.

Our Story

It all began when Karl a 24-year-old Dystonia sufferer needed something that would help him communicate with his family and friends. Karl is nonverbal, and his parents used several AAC communications apps but didn’t find a solution that suited Karl’s needs. After trying lots of options, Karl’s parents decided to get an AAC App developed that would enable their son Karl to communicate more effectively and the KarlSpeech App is the result of a lot of deliberation, testing, trialling and development. As Karl is nonverbal, it’s not so much about “Speech” but “Communications Independence” – and the KarlSpeech App helps provide that independence.
