〉〉 What is LAPS 〉〉

LAPS is a free tool from Microsoft that randomises the local password on each managed windows endpoint. This unique password and its expiry date is securely stored in Active Directory attributes and viewable only to authorized accounts. LAPS is a great tool to prevent lateral movement and privilege escalation “Pass the hash” attacks.

The paid subscription allows you to copy the password to clipboard and also trigger the password reset.
NOTE - LAPS user interface only triggers the password reset. The actual password reset is completed by the GPO process that runs on the management endpoint.
