Liao is a private AI conversation partner for learners who want to build real speaking confidence. Start an open conversation or choose a scene in Roleplay. Mix in English when you need to, and keep the conversation moving at your level.
Use Liao to:
- have open-ended spoken Mandarin conversations;
- ask language questions without losing the main conversation;
- talk through Mandarin questions with Liao Coach;
- see Chinese, pinyin, and English reading support;
- replay a reply normally or slowly;
- practise pronunciation and inspect word-by-word feedback;
- save useful phrases and characters, use review cards, and revisit your progress;
- choose a speaking-focused, transcript, or chat-style experience.
Liao prioritises communication. If your meaning is clear, the conversation can continue naturally. When a phrase needs help, Liao can quietly offer a clearer or more natural alternative.
Guided tours introduce the conversation tools and your app features. Replay them from Preferences whenever you need a refresher.
Microphone access and an internet connection are required for live conversation. AI and speech recognition can make mistakes, so important translations or advice should be verified.
Try one preview conversation of up to five minutes before choosing a plan.
Paid subscription plans include 35 conversation minutes each week, shared by Liao Chat and Roleplay sessions and their main, side and practice chats, plus a separate 10-minute Liao Coach bank. Typing during a Liao Coach live session uses that same session time. Time runs from session start to finish, including chat switches. Both banks refill every seven days from your original subscription start; unused minutes do not roll over. See remaining time and the next refill in the app.
Eligible Annual subscriptions offer a 7-day free trial. The trial includes one allocation of 35 conversation minutes and 10 Coach minutes, without a refill during the trial. Monthly subscriptions do not include a free trial. The applicable offer, local price and renewal terms are shown before you confirm with Apple.
Some features require an auto-renewing subscription. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled. Payment is charged to your Apple Account. You can manage or cancel in Apple Account settings and restore eligible purchases inside Liao.
