Tap pictures to build a sentence. The iPad says it aloud.
WORKS WITH NO INTERNET
Every board, picture and recorded voice lives on the iPad. No signal needed, ever. A child can talk on a plane, in a car park, or anywhere the phone shows no bars.
READY TO USE IN ONE MINUTE
Over 500 words are already there: a home board of big buttons for the most important words, the full core board one tap away, and folders for people, actions, feelings, food and drink, things, places, fun, the body, school, describing words, questions, time, talking, colours, numbers and the alphabet — and an Important board in red for "help me", "I need a break", "too loud" and "I need the toilet".
BUILT THE WAY SPEECH THERAPISTS ASK FOR
• Core vocabulary on the home board, in fixed positions that never move, so a word is learned by the movement of the hand and not by hunting for it
• Fitzgerald Key colour coding — people yellow, actions green, describing words blue, things orange
• Deleting or hiding a button leaves its square empty so nothing else shifts
• Grow the grid from 2x2 to 12x10 without moving a single word already learned
MAKE EVERY BUTTON YOURS
• Photographs from your camera or library — the real cup, the real bus stop, the real grandmother
• Emoji, or free symbols searched from a library of thousands
• Record your own voice for any button, so the board can speak in a voice the child already knows
• Any size: one button can fill four columns
• Any colour, any label, any spoken words
FOR EVERY WAY OF TOUCHING A SCREEN
• Switch scanning: automatic or step, row-column or linear, with adjustable speed and auditory prompts
• Tap anywhere to turn the whole screen into one switch
• Hold-to-select (dwell) with a visible timer
• A filter so a tremor is never counted as two presses
• Full keyboard control and screen reader labels
MORE THAN A BOARD
• Word prediction that learns from what this person actually says
• A typing keyboard with word completion, in QWERTY or ABC
• Quick phrases for whole sentences said often
• A history of everything said, with one tap to say it again
• Search every board for a word
• Grammar buttons that add -s, -ing and -ed
LOCK IT DOWN
Kiosk mode goes full screen and hides the settings behind a code, so a child cannot wander out of the board mid-sentence. Hold the top-left corner for three seconds to get back. Works with Guided Access.
FOR PARENTS AND THERAPISTS
• A code lock over editing and settings
• Usage data kept on the device: words used, messages spoken, most-used words, exportable as a spreadsheet
• Several users on one iPad, each with their own boards and voice
• Back up and restore everything, or print a board on paper
PRIVATE BY DEFAULT
No advertising. No analytics. No tracking. No third-party code. Nothing leaves the iPad unless you choose to back it up, and you never have to.
FOR MEHZAD
Mehzad hasn't found his words yet. His mum asked for something that would let him say what he needs. His dad built it — for Mehzad, and for any child who needs it, while they wait for their words.
If it helps your child, we ask one thing back: a prayer for Mehzad, that he finds his voice too.
MehzadTalks is a communication aid, not a medical device. It does not diagnose or treat anything. Please set it up with a speech and language therapist where you can.
