Blooms open in a meadow, then tuck away behind the grass. A moment later, one peeks
back out — and you say whether it is the same as before, or changed. That is the whole
idea: a brief look, a short hold, and a simple answer. It is drawn from a real
memory-science task called change detection, the same paradigm labs use to measure
visual working-memory capacity.
SEVEN WAYS TO PLAY
Measured — the main game. A few blooms, then the meadow gently adapts to find how many
you can hold at once, and reports it as your capacity score, K.
Capacity check — the same task at fixed set sizes of 3, 4 and 6, for a clean, comparable
reading.
Casual — the whole scene returns and you simply say whether anything changed. Slower,
gentler, accuracy only.
Firefly Trail — lanterns light up one at a time along a trail; tap them back in order,
then in reverse. A classic spatial span task, the Corsi block-tapping test, dressed in
fireflies.
Echo Hollow — blooms drift past one at a time; tap Match when a bloom repeats the colour
from n blooms ago. This is the n-back task, and it trains something different from
holding still: updating what you carry as new information arrives.
Fern's Lantern — the same hold-and-recall task as Measured, but on some rounds Fern
lifts a lantern over the spot she's about to ask about just before the probe — a small,
honest look at how a cue changes what memory holds onto.
Wind Chimes — a short run of chimes plays, one bloom at a time; echo it back by tapping
the blooms in the same order. A memory-span task for the ear, so it plays beautifully
with your eyes closed.
There is also a Weekly challenge — the same seeded set for everyone that week — a Long
Wander that strolls through every game in one flowing session, and Two Keepers, for
taking turns with someone else.
WHAT YOU GET BACK
- A daily goal and a streak, with a freeze so one missed day doesn't erase a month
- Your capacity (K), spans, and n-back record, tracked over time
- Records and achievements as you go
- A shareable summary card, built only from your own numbers
- A short, honest research page explaining what each game measures — and what the
evidence does and doesn't support
BUILT TO BE QUIET
No account. No ads. No tracking. No network calls. Nothing leaves your phone, because
there is nowhere for it to go — your progress is stored on the device, and the only way
to move it is the backup you export yourself, as a file or a block of text.
Up to three keepers can share the meadow, each with their own streak, bests and
settings.
An optional daily reminder (a local notification only — nothing is sent anywhere), a
calm soundtrack with moods you unlock as you play, sound effects you can mute, and
settings for larger text, reduced motion, and slower timing.
A NOTE ON WHAT THIS IS
Memory Meadow is a playful working-memory exercise built on real tasks from cognitive
psychology — change detection, spatial span, n-back. It is not a validated clinical
intervention, a medical device, or a diagnostic tool, and it won't diagnose or treat
anything. The evidence is honest, too: practising these games reliably makes you better
at them, but the best research does not show that working-memory training reliably
improves general intelligence or everyday thinking. Play it for what it is — a
genuinely enjoyable way to notice what your mind can hold.
