Mujian

Every piece of wood has a place. Discover how it fits.

What holds up the timber stage of a historic temple? How does a curved chair become a connected frame? Mujian brings architectural appreciation, traditional craft, joinery lessons and an open workbench into one space for curious minds.

LOOK BEYOND THE SURFACE
Explore 10 historic timber buildings and 10 representative objects or craft types, from Kiyomizu-dera and the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda to Chinese horseshoe-back chairs and Japanese kumiko. Historical context, craft explanations and source references help you connect what you see with how it was made.

TAKE A CLOSER LOOK IN 3D
Rotate through 360 degrees, zoom in and select individual components. Exploded views, part-by-part disassembly and step-by-step joint demonstrations reveal how neighboring pieces meet. Bring the model back together to see how each connection belongs to the whole.

BUILD UNDERSTANDING, ONE JOINT AT A TIME
Study 17 three-dimensional joinery examples and a glossary of 28 component types. Read about structure, technique and history, then find those ideas in buildings and everyday objects. A companion for exploring woodworking, architecture, furniture and design.

TRY AN IDEA OF YOUR OWN
Choose pieces on the free assembly workbench, adjust their position and orientation, and explore combinations. Compatibility guidance suggests pieces that can work together. Study a single joint, build a small frame or keep an interesting fragment. You do not need to recreate an entire building to make a worthwhile discovery.

KEEP YOUR WORK AND CONTINUE LATER
Save a drawing, reopen it and carry on experimenting. Export PDF drawings or Mujian drawing files, and share images of your workbench with friends or fellow enthusiasts. PDFs can include front, top and side views alongside a parts list. Optional iCloud sync and manual file export give you ways to keep your work across sessions.
