Meet Nico: a small black cat. He lives in a cozy apartment in Montclair, New Jersey – and he needs you.

LOOK AFTER NICO AT HOME Fill his bowl, rub his fur until the hearts fly, and scoop the litter box. Nico has a life of his own: he naps on his cushion, climbs the cat tree, scratches, watches the birds from the window and hops onto the kitchen counter when nobody's looking.

HEAD OUT INTO MONTCLAIR Tap the front door and Nico sets off through 50 real places in Montclair. Run, jump and bounce over awnings, climb fire escapes onto the rooftops, balance on picket fences, hop across the stepping stones of Yantacaw Brook and dodge squirrels, crows and runaway shopping carts. Visit Church Street, Bay Street Station, the Wellmont Theater, the Art Museum, Eagle Rock and Upper Montclair – and dive through a shiny manhole into the sewers, pipeworks and a glowing cave.

FIVE BOSSES Every tenth level someone has stolen Nico's fish: the Squirrel King, a raccoon in a top hat hiding in trash cans, a giant crow and a garbage truck – and in the finale on the rooftops, all of them at once. Each one wins a trophy for Nico's shelf and a new outfit.

COLLECT, DECORATE, DRESS UP Treats from the streets fill Nico's bowl – and buy toys and decorations in the pet shop: a yarn ball, a feather wand, catnip, an aquarium, a window hammock, a heated basket. Stars unlock a wardrobe full of outfits, from a bell collar and a cozy sweater to a witch hat and a golden crown.
