noiss - focus sounds

noiss is a background sound app for focusing, relaxing, sleeping, and recharging—
lightweight and offline on your iPhone. What sets it apart is what it *doesn't* do:
it doesn't promise to transform your brain.

Most apps in this category sell a "magic switch" for your state of mind. Research
suggests otherwise: the effects exist, but they are subtle and depend on the
listener and the context. Noise helps those with ADHD but might distract those
without it. Binaural beats rely on unproven mechanisms. Nature sounds have the
strongest scientific backing.

Instead of hiding this, noiss puts it front and center. Each sound carries an
evidence-strength label—Good, Mixed, Weak, or No Evidence—along with an
honest note and a citation of the study. You decide what works for you.

SOUNDS

• Real-time synthesized white, pink, and brown noise—infinite, file-free, and
without that audible glitch when the loop restarts.
• Binaural beats, presented with explicit skepticism.
• Nature loops based on real field recordings: rain, streams, forests, and birds,
featuring various locations from around the world.

ORGANIZED BY STATE OF MIND

• Focus—background sound for your next hour of work.
• Relax—slow down with the sounds that have the strongest scientific backing.
• Sleep—environmental masking, not a magic sleep button.
• Energy—little evidence exists here. And it’s okay to admit that.

CALM TOOLS

• Layered mixer: combine rain and pink noise to find your own version of silence,
with independent volume control for each layer.
• Save your combinations as presets.
• Focus session (Pomodoro) featuring work blocks, breaks, and an optional journal.
The timer never alters the sound—you remain in full control of the audio. • Sleep timer with a gentle fade-out during the final seconds—the sound drifts away rather than cutting off abruptly.
• Gentle alert when the volume has been too high for too long.

BUILT FOR IPHONE

• Live Activity on the Dynamic Island and Lock Screen: track your focus session
without opening the app. Displays only time and progress—never audio controls.
• Audio continues playing in the background and appears in Control Center,
using your standard media controls.
• Picks up right where you left off.

HONEST INSIDE AND OUT

• Truly free: the entire catalog, mixer, presets, and timers—no paywalls,
no subscriptions, no hidden purchases.
• Offline: works without an internet connection.
• No ads, no tracking. Nothing you do leaves your device. No
gamification, streaks, or notifications designed to pull you back in. noiss doesn't fight
for your attention—it exists to stay out of your way.

Japandi design: warm paper textures, earthy tones, and plenty of white space. The interface
is part of the relaxation experience.

No single sound is magic. Give it a try and see what works for you.
