Topo Maps turns your iPhone into a complete topographic mapping tool for the outdoors, with contour lines drawn on the device, trail routing, track recording and full offline support.

A NEW TOPOGRAPHIC MAP
The redesigned vector topo map is built for terrain. Contour lines are generated directly on your device from elevation data, so they stay sharp at every zoom level and land on round intervals in meters or feet, with labelled index lines every fifth contour. Hillshaded relief sits underneath, so ridges, gullies and summits read at a glance.

FOUR MAP TYPES
Switch between the new vector topo map, a Liberty topo style, OpenTopoMap, and USGS services including Topo, Satellite and Hydro for coverage in the United States.

DIRECTIONS ON REAL TRAILS
Tap the map to drop points and get a route that follows actual paths and trails instead of straight lines. Choose hiking, running or cycling, with a dedicated mountain bike profile. Every route is drawn in colors that show the grade, so you can see the steep sections before you walk them.

TRACK RECORDING
Record your hike, run or ride with live distance, time, ascent and speed. Recording continues in the background with the screen off, and you can pause and resume without adding false distance across the gap. Saved tracks show distance, duration, ascent, descent and average speed, and can be renamed or exported as GPX.

BACKTRACK
Lost the way back? Backtrack reverses any recorded track and guides you along it with a compass arrow, the distance to the next point and the distance remaining.

ELEVATION PROFILES
Every route and recording gets an interactive elevation profile. Drag to read altitude and grade at any point, or pinch to zoom in on a single climb.

MAPS THAT WORK OFFLINE
Download any area before you go. You get a live size and tile estimate as you frame it, and elevation data is downloaded with it, so contour lines and hillshading keep working with no signal at all. Maps you browse are cached automatically as well, and Settings shows exactly how much space each part uses.

TRAIL OVERLAYS
Show marked hiking, cycling and running routes from Waymarked Trails, or ski pistes from OpenSnowMap, layered on top of any map type.

MORE
Search for any place or address. Import GPX files from Files or straight from other apps, then show, hide, reorder and color them. Choose meters or feet, and everything from contour intervals to speed follows.

PRIVACY
Recorded tracks stay on this device. There is no account, no sign in, and nothing is uploaded.

IMPORTANT
Maps, elevation figures and routes are built from publicly available data such as OpenStreetMap and open elevation datasets. That data can be inaccurate, outdated or incomplete. Do not rely on this app alone to judge how hard or how safe a piece of terrain is, or how precise a route is. A path shown on the map may not exist on the ground, may be impassable, or may need skills and equipment the map cannot describe. Always carry proper navigation equipment, check local conditions, and use your own judgement outdoors.
