opti*Map ED is a cost-effective alternative to the printed ICAO maps of the German Air Traffic Control (DFS), which are usually used as backup for flights according to visual flight rules. The digital map material is much clearer and more user-friendly than the large printed map sheets. Who has not already experienced that a lot of attention is lost when folded and that the unwieldy ball of paper no longer fits in the side pocket? Not to mention "flying over the edge of the map".

With opti*Map ED you can continuously zoom, move and rotate the map. Clarity is always retained, because when zooming, you automatically switch between a total of five different levels of detail. When displaying the complete map sheet, only the most important airspaces, the national borders and the FIR areas are displayed. If you zoom further and further into the map, further airspaces and the airfields are displayed. In the next level of detail, VORs, forest areas and roads also appear. Finally, mandatory reporting points, the frequencies of the airfields and the height of the air spaces is being displayed.

However, opti*Map ED is much more than a digital ICAO map on a smartphone or tablet. It also shows the current position and a free target point can be set. The map can be represented as "North-up", "Track-up" or "Goal-up". If the map is moved very far so that the aircraft symbol is no longer visible, simply press the center button to display the current position again.

Data tiles that can be hidden on request show important data. For example, the current GPS ground speed and the distance to and deviation from the destination.

opti*Map ED is updated considerably more often than a printed ICAO map. All updates and enhancements are free during a subscription.
