Pasture Laminitis: Horse Guide

Stop guessing whether today's pasture is safe for your IR, PPID, or EMS horse. Pasture Laminitis gives you a daily grazing risk score based on your local weather and your horse's profile.

Every owner of a metabolic horse knows the spring and fall fear: one sunny day after a frosty night can spike pasture sugar (NSC, fructan) and trigger a laminitis episode. The decision to turn out, muzzle, or dry-lot changes daily — and depends on overnight low, sun, drought, and frost data that nobody wants to combine before morning chores.

HOW IT WORKS

1. Add your horse: metabolic type, body condition score, grass type, pasture adaptation, and exercise level.
2. Pasture Laminitis pulls today's overnight low, cloud cover, days since rain, and frost events at your location.
3. You get a daily Fructan Risk Index, a risk band (LOW, MODERATE, HIGH, VERY HIGH), and a safe turnout window.

CORE FEATURES

Daily Risk Score
A single number plus verdict — full turnout, restricted hours, grazing muzzle, or dry-lot only. Built on overnight respiration drawdown, daytime photosynthesis, drought stress, and frost multiplier formulas drawn from published equine nutrition research.

Why Today
Each verdict comes with the top reason driving today's risk — frost on the grass, drought stress, sunny dormant grass, or warm overnight low. You learn pasture science as you check the forecast.

Horse Profile
One horse profile included free. Your profile shapes the verdict — a healthy gelding on Bermuda is not the same horse as an EMS pony on ryegrass.

Pasture Laminitis provides general grazing guidance based on local weather and published equine nutrition research. NSC estimates are weather-based forecasts, not pasture measurements. Individual horses vary widely in tolerance. It is not a substitute for veterinary advice. Always consult your equine veterinarian for individual turnout, feeding, and management decisions.
