Rumo teaches reading by getting kids to write.

Your child writes a sentence on the page with Apple Pencil. Rumo reads their actual handwriting, turns what they wrote into a picture, and reads it back aloud. This visual and kinesthetic learning approach excels in making words memorable and allows your child to draw meaning from texts.

WORD LESSONS

Roughly 875 words carry about 90% of everything a young child reads. Rumo teaches them, ten at a time.

- Every lesson: hear the word, see it used in a real sentence, then write that sentence yourself.
- Five levels: Fresh Pencil, Sharpened, Smooth Writer, Bold Marker, Golden Pencil. Kid-facing names, never grade numbers, so nobody feels behind.
- 88 lessons at each level, and every word arrives in a sentence written for that level. Over 4,000 sentences in all.
- Beginners write on top of a dotted tracing guide. Steadier writers get a blank ruled page.
- Finish a lesson, pick a sticker: 324 of them across four sticker pages.
- Handwriting not quite readable yet? Rumo never dead-ends a child. After a few tries they can keep going.

CREATE MODE

A blank page and their own idea. Whatever your child writes becomes an illustration and a narrated read-aloud in their own words. It's the part they ask for and it only happens if they write something first.

MY STORIES

Every picture is saved. Kids arrange them into a picture book: their handwriting on one page, the illustration on the next and export it as a printable PDF with their name on the cover.

MADE FOR iPad

Designed for iPad and Apple Pencil, not stretched up from a phone. Handwriting is recognized on the device itself, so your child gets a response to the letters they actually wrote, not to a multiple-choice guess.

FREE TO START

Word Lessons are free; every level, every lesson, every word, with no daily limit, and the pictures inside lessons never cost anything. Kids also earn mangos for words they learn, and mangos buy pictures for their own writing in Create Mode.

A subscription adds a daily allowance of pictures and lifts the free plan's one-a-day limit on creative writing:

Yearly plans work out to two months free. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless auto-renew is switched off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; manage or cancel any time in your Apple Account settings.

Rumo occasionally draws a picture that doesn't match what was written. Every picture has a Report button for grown-ups.
