Score for Here is a site-specific sonic experience using modified field recordings and samples composed through geolocation. A graphic score based on the site's blueprint–paths, landscaping, open spaces–designates each sound element’s geofenced triggering zone while each visitor’s navigation of the site functions as an aleatory compositional principle.

Score for Here invites Los Angeles State Historic Park visitors to compose sound in real time as they navigate the park. The experience is streamed on the user’s mobile connection and can be enjoyed with a pair of headphones. Signage is placed at the park with a QR code to download the app on a smartphone, and features the park’s grounds interpreted as a graphic score.

Considering this kind of geolocative software is traditionally designed to guide and direct, Score for Here repurposes it as an aleatory compositional principle that inspires divergence. The app will remain available on-site indefinitely and will change overtime while the database of usable samples continues to grow. Rather than a seamless, finished artwork for consumption, the work is a morphing proposition, a catalyst for speculation and potential transformation.

Guidelines and suggestions:

-Find yourself at the Los Angeles State Historic Park. You can start your experience anywhere within the park boundaries.

-You will have to physically be at the Los Angeles State Historic Park to listen.

-After you've started the experience, you can see your current position as the blue dot. Entering a sound zone on the map will trigger that sound, and the zone will highlight on the map.

-Tapping on a zone on the map will bring up more info.

-To best experience Score for Here, don’t plan your route; walk around and explore. Stay on the path or venture where there are no paths. and put your phone in your pocket for a more immersive listening experience.
