SkyHUD Aviation turns your iPhone into an emergency backup flight instrument panel. Using the device's built-in sensors — barometer, accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, and GPS — it displays real-time flight data overlaid on the rear camera feed for a true augmented reality cockpit experience.

— INSTRUMENTS —

Attitude Indicator: Pitch and roll with Kalman-filtered IMU data, vibration compensation for piston engines, roll arc with tick marks, and integrated slip ball indicator. The AI fills the entire screen in landscape mode with adjustable transparency — the camera shows through, aligning the virtual horizon with the real one.

Altimeter: Barometric altitude in feet from the iPhone's pressure sensor. Adjustable QNH in both hPa and inHg. Displays pressure altitude and QNH setting.

Airspeed: Indicated airspeed estimate in knots, derived from GPS ground speed corrected for estimated wind. Ground speed displayed separately.

Vertical Speed Indicator: Rate of climb or descent in feet per minute and meters per second. Calculated from barometric pressure changes with weighted averaging for smooth, responsive readings.

Heading: Magnetic heading from the magnetometer with circular averaging for stability. Mini compass rose with north indicator. Cardinal direction display.

Turn Coordinator: Turn rate in degrees per second. Standard rate turn indicator (STD badge at 3°/s). Direction callout (LEFT / RIGHT / LEVEL).

G-Force: Real-time G-load with maximum recorded. Color-coded warnings at 1.8G and 2.5G thresholds.

Wind: Speed and direction estimated from ground track analysis during turning flight. Displayed in knots with cardinal direction.

The rear camera provides a live background for the instrument panel. In landscape mode, the Attitude Indicator fills the entire screen with semi-transparent sky and ground overlays — when mounted in the cockpit, the virtual horizon aligns with the real horizon visible through the camera. No other backup instrument app offers this AR integration.

Vibration filter tuning per aircraft type: Helicopter, Piston Single, Piston Twin, Turboprop, Jet, Glider, Ultralight. Each profile adjusts the Kalman filter and low-pass parameters to compensate for engine vibration frequencies.
