Smart Surat 2022

India is at the cusp of rapid urbanization. Its urban dwellers are estimated to double from 400 million to 800 million in the next 2 decades. Making our cities smart is no more a choice, it is a need. Smart Cities Mission, launched in 2015, embodied the vision laid down by our Hon’ble Prime Minister of converting this impending urbanization into an opportunity to bring ease of living and prosperity for all.

What began as a promising medley of ideas, started to take shape through a variety of projects on ground and in less than 7 years from its historic launch,3,800+ projects worth 8+ billion USD have been completed and another 3,800+ projects worth 17+ billion USD are in advance stages of implementation, transforming citizens’ lives in the competitively selected 100 Smart Cities. And that’s not all! The Mission, true its logo – the butterfly (representing transform-nation), is now blossoming into a movement - spreading its learnings to all cities and towns of the country.

Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), has organized a series of events pursuant to the clarion call given by Hon’ble Prime Minister to commemorate 75th anniversary of India’s Independence as Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM). The conference Smart Cities, Smart Urbanizationbeing organized during18-20 April 2022 at Surat(one of India’s leading Smart Cities) portends to be a watershed event – a confluence of ideas, innovations and partnerships to inform the future trajectory of smart urban development in India.

Focused on five sub-themes viz. Reimagining Public Spaces, Digital Governance, ClimateSmart Cities, Innovation and Smart Finance, the conference will help disseminate the learnings from Smart Cities to other cities and towns of the country. Come, enrich and be enriched with ideas that will shape India’s future!
