Smilepay enables seamless cross-border payments between users abroad and their counterparts in Ethiopia using stablecoins. Diaspora users in the USA can send stablecoins such as PYUSD or USDC from Venmo or Coinbase directly to recipients’ Smilepay wallets in Ethiopia through secure peer-to-peer transfers. Recipients in Ethiopia receive the stablecoins instantly and can off-ramp to local bank accounts, pay bills, top up mobile airtime, or use the funds digitally within the Smilepay ecosystem.
Diaspora users who hold an Ethiopian Fayda ID or Yellow Card can also create an Ethiopia-linked Smilepay account, allowing them to transfer funds to their own wallet for bank transfers, bill payments, and everyday financial needs in Ethiopia.
