Description
Tinnitus is loudest when the room is quiet. Tacet gives the room something else in it — a sound built around the exact pitch you hear, not a generic noise track.
FIND YOUR PITCH Put your headphones on and slide through pitches from 250 Hz to 14 kHz until one matches the sound in your head. Choose the timbre — whistle, hum, hiss or pulsing — and the ear. It takes about two minutes, and you only do it once. Then you can let someone else hear what you hear: your partner, or your doctor.
THE SOUND MADE FOR YOU Masking concentrates the sound around your pitch, so it sits in the same place and covers it. The notch does the opposite: it removes a band around your pitch, so the sound surrounds your ringing instead. Researchers have studied this approach; what it changes varies from one person to another. Eight sounds, all generated live on your iPhone: pink, brown and white noise, ocean, rain, wind, fire and a room fan. No audio files, so nothing ever loops the same way twice.
THE NIGHT A black screen, the time, and a timer that fades out slowly instead of cutting off — a sound that stops abruptly can wake you. The sound keeps playing with the screen locked, survives an incoming call, and stops on its own the moment you unplug your headphones.
A JOURNAL YOU CAN HAND OVER One question a day: how much did it bother you? A chart of your own days, and an optional note about what happened — poor sleep, stress, loud noise, caffeine. Export it as a PDF to bring to an appointment. Tacet will never tell you whether your tinnitus is getting better or worse. A daily impression cannot answer that, and an app that pretended otherwise would be lying to you.
TEN SHORT ARTICLES, FREE What tinnitus is. Why silence makes it worse. What habituation means. What sound therapy is actually known to do, and where the evidence is uncertain. What to be wary of. Who to talk to. And the one that matters most: ringing that appeared suddenly, in one ear, especially with hearing loss, needs a doctor within days — not weeks.
BUILT FOR THE EARS IT SERVES Output is capped, the volume starts low, and the app warns you when your device volume is high. The test tone stops on its own; holding a pure tone in your ear is tiring and pointless.
FREE, AND WHAT IS NOT Finding your pitch, three sounds, a fifteen-minute timer, the daily journal and every article are free and stay free. Tacet Pro adds the other five sounds, the notch mode, timers up to all night, and the PDF export.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN No account. No server of its own. Your pitch and your journal never leave your iPhone. Tacet never uses the microphone — it generates sound, it does not listen to any.
Tacet plays sound and keeps a log. It does not diagnose, treat or cure anything, and it is not a hearing test. Talk to a doctor about your tinnitus.
