Tafsir e Namoona

Tafseer-e-Namoona is considered one of the most valuable contemporary interpretations of the Holy Qur’an available today. The work on this tafseer was carried out over a period of approximately fifteen years through the efforts of a group of prominent scholars under the supervision and patronage of Naser Makarem Shirazi.

The tafseer was originally written in the Persian language and has since been translated into several languages, including Arabic and Urdu, making it accessible to a wider audience across the Muslim world. One of the most important features of Tafseer-e-Namoona is its simple and clear language, and its interpretation is directed not only toward scholars but also toward common readers.

The Qur’an is a book of life and guidance; therefore, instead of focusing only on literary, grammatical, or philosophical debates, the main focus of this tafseer is to address issues related to the personal, moral, social, and practical life of individuals and society. It connects Qur’anic teachings with real-life problems and modern social issues, helping readers understand how the Qur’an provides guidance for everyday life.

Various important topics discussed in the Qur’an are explained in detail in this tafseer, such as Riba (interest), slavery, women’s rights, the philosophy of Hajj, gambling, the prohibition of wine and pork, Islamic Jihad and its objectives, social justice, ethics, family life, and economic principles. Tafseer-e-Namoona highlights the main topic in each verse of the Qur’an and provides additional explanations and background information so that readers do not need to consult multiple external sources to understand the subject.

For the better understanding of the general public, the interpretation method has been formulated in simple and fluent language while still comprehensively addressing literary, spiritual, historical, social, ethical, and theological issues discussed in the Qur’an. Complex academic terminology that would limit its use to scholars has largely been avoided except where necessary.

For these reasons, Tafseer-e-Namoona is considered one of the most comprehensive, practical, literary, and easily understandable tafseers of the Holy Qur’an in modern times, widely used by students, scholars, and general readers alike.
