Targman turns reading another language into vocabulary practice. Point your camera at a book, magazine, or screen — every word in your source language becomes tappable. Tap any word to see its translation, definition, and pronunciation. Save the words you want to learn. Review them with spaced repetition. Everything happens on your device.

CAMERA-FIRST LOOKUP
Point your iPhone at text in any supported language. Targman recognizes every word in real time using on-device OCR. Tap any word to translate it. No internet required. No data leaves your phone.

CHOOSE YOUR LANGUAGES
Pick your source and target languages during setup, or change them anytime in Settings. Targman supports the languages available in Apple's Translation framework on your device — including French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, English, Russian, and more. Available pairs depend on your iOS version and region.

SMART FLASHCARDS
Save words to your personal deck. Targman uses the SM-2 spaced-repetition algorithm — the same approach used by Anki and SuperMemo — to schedule reviews when you're most likely to forget. Daily streaks reward consistent practice without nagging.

THREE WAYS TO STUDY
Tap-to-flip cards for fast self-grading. Multiple choice for lower-friction drilling. Listening practice with native voices to train your ear.

INTELLIGENT MATCHING
"Tenir" means "to hold." If you type "hold," Targman accepts it. Levenshtein distance handles typos. You can teach the app new alternative translations as you go — your cards get smarter the more you use them.

INFINITIVES AND HEADWORDS
Words change form. Targman automatically falls back to dictionary headwords when needed: tap a conjugated verb, get the definition for the infinitive. Headword lookup is supported in French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, and English.

DICTIONARY BUILT IN
System dictionary lookup is one tap away. Conjugations, definitions, examples — all available without leaving the app, in any language for which you've installed an iOS dictionary.

Don't have your camera handy? Type any word or sentence. Translate in either direction with a single tap. Save useful words to your deck.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
All translation, OCR, dictionary lookup, and speech happens on-device. No accounts, no logins, no analytics, no ads. Your reading habits are nobody's business but yours.

REQUIREMENTS
iPhone running iOS 18.0 or later. The language packs you want to use must be downloaded (free) from iOS Settings → General → Language & Region → Translation Languages. For listening practice: install a voice for your source language in iOS Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content.

The name "Targman" comes from the root of the Armenian word for "translator" or "interpreter," ancestor of the English word "dragoman."
