Behind the scenes, ThriftBuddy uses AI vision to identify items by their barcode, brand logo, model number, or visual appearance. Then it pulls current eBay listings for the same product and checks each one against your photo, so a lookalike doesn't set your price. Where eBay has a catalogue entry for the product, it matches that too. Prices reflect what a buyer actually pays — item plus delivery. Your match score tells you how confident the identification is, so you know how much weight to put on the number.

BACKUP AND RESTORE
You can use ThriftBuddy without an account — scans, camera and history all work signed out. If you'd rather not lose your finds when you switch phones, sign in with Apple and ThriftBuddy backs up your history, finds, stats, streaks and achievements, then restores them on the new one. No name, no email, no password. Your original photos stay on your phone. Backups cover your latest 200 scans, and you can delete your account and everything in it from inside the app, any time.

PRIVACY
Built by a solo developer who actually cares about privacy. No advertising. No tracking across other apps. No third-party analytics. The photos you scan aren't kept on our server after the scan completes, and never go into a backup. Photos you attach to an eBay listing are sent to eBay, which is the whole point of listing. A NOTE ON PRICING ACCURACY
ThriftBuddy is a research tool, not a guarantee. Prices shown are what sellers are currently asking, not completed sales, and asking prices fluctuate. Even an accurate identification can return a wide range for unusual or rare items. Always use your own judgment before buying or selling. The match score on every scan tells you how confident the identification is — high confidence with lots of comparable listings is reliable, low confidence means double-check before pulling the trigger.
