Tripoli inTour

The Digital Museum of Tripoli was established in 2023. The aim is for the residents and visitors of the city to get to know and learn aspects of the history of Tripoli, through the digital collections and through the use of the Museum’s applications. The Museum’s digital collection includes maps, historical documents, images, archival material, etc. and is structured in four sections. The first section concerns Tripoli of the Ottoman times, from the first references on the existence of the city to the early 19th century when Tripolitsa is the administrative center of Morea. The second section is dedicated to the Greek Revolution. Besides, the city is at the heart of all the political and military events of the Struggle for independence. The third section is related to the urban, economic and social development of the city within the modern Greek state, in the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century. The last, fourth, section concerns the post-war development of the city and its modern identity.

Touring the interior of the Museum can be done using portable devices (tablets), which are provided to visitors, as well as through specially designed interactive applications. In addition, two thematic routes for Tripoli have been designed with the aim of touring the city’s historic buildings and monuments. The Museum’s digital collection remains open for enrichment with archival, photographic and audiovisual evidence from residents who wish to contribute to the preservation and highlight of the city’s past.
