Raise your phone and the photos and videos you have already taken appear on the real landscape, each on the spot it was shot from, at its true distance and height. No search box, no scrolling: the place in front of you is the search, and your photos are the results.
Looking for one photo in particular? Pick it from the map and an arrow turns you toward it until it sits on the horizon ahead.
WHAT IT DOES
Live camera view
Your geotagged photos and videos hang on the landscape using GPS, compass, motion sensors and altitude. On iPhone 12 and later the barometer keeps your own height accurate. Turn around and the pins stay where the places are.
Behind the lens
Pick a photo and the map flies to where you stood, over 3D satellite terrain, facing the way the camera did. You see the valley you photographed as if looking over your own shoulder.
Distance and elevation filters
Keep only what is far away and the foreground clutter disappears. Keep only what is above you and everything below goes quiet. A profile shows where your photos actually are, in metres from where you stand.
One pin per place
Photos from the same place group into one pin, with its whole history, year by year. Photos in the same direction but at very different distances stay separate, so the town on the horizon never mixes with the street around the corner.
Shot direction
Every photo shows on the map where the camera was aimed, with a cone as wide as its real angle of view. Open a place you have shot many times and filter its photos by the way the camera faced.
Photo details
Coordinates, altitude, distance, bearing and the height difference between you and the shot, in your units. Copy the coordinates with one tap, or open the spot in Maps and walk there.
FREE AND PRIVATE
Ubimage is free, with no ads and nothing to buy. There is no account and no server: it reads the location already saved in your photos and does the geometry on your iPhone. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is tracked. You can also give access to a selection of photos only.
MADE FOR
Hikers who look at a peak and wonder whether they have been up there.
Travellers back in a city, finding the corner they photographed last time and walking straight to it.
Anglers returning to the exact spot of the big catch: open water has no landmarks, but the photo taken on the boat does.
Climbers checking an approach they have already photographed.
Orienteers training their eye: a feature you photographed comes back at its true bearing and distance.
Anyone with ten thousand photos and no memory of where half of them were taken.
LANGUAGES AND UNITS
English, Italian and Spanish, with metric or imperial units chosen separately from the language.
REQUIREMENTS
Photos need location data, which iPhone saves automatically when location is on for the Camera. Ubimage works best where you can see some distance: a summit with an open view, or a boulevard with a landmark at the end.
