UmbiCalc is based on the algorithm described by Tambasco et al. in “A Novel and Accurate Method for Estimating Umbilical Arterial and Venous Catheter Insertion Length.” Journal of Perinatology 2021. The algorithm was derived from statistical modeling using a representative sample of the current NICU population and validated across a wide range of birth weights.
