Yarım Hurma

Even 15 minutes is enough to do some good in Cambridge.

Yarım Hurma shows you small and big ways to help, and you pick one when it suits you. There is no rota and no ongoing commitment. Do one task this week, and another one next month if you like.

Pick a task. Do the good. Earn the reward. Help Cambridge flourish.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
Teach Quran to children. Clean the community hall. Help with science experiments or an outdoor day for children. Cook for a charity bazaar or look after a stall. Make breakfast for university students. Help a neighbour with shopping, the garden or a short visit.

HOW IT WORKS
• Sign in with your phone number or email and a one-time code. There is no password.
• Tell us your area, the languages you speak, when you are usually free and what you like doing.
• See the tasks that fit you, as a list or on a map.
• Tap "I'll do it". Many tasks are confirmed straight away. For some, like activities with children, the organiser says yes first.
• We remind you the day before and two hours before.
• On the day, tap "I've started" when you arrive and "I've finished" when you are done. Then tell us how it went.

YOUR DATES
Each finished task gives you a few "dates". They are a private record of the good you have done. Only you and the coordinators can see them. There are no rankings and no public badges.

The name comes from a hadith: "Protect yourselves from the Fire, even with half a date." (Bukhari, Muslim). No good deed is too small.

SAFETY
• Activities with children are led by the organiser. A volunteer is never alone with children.
• Tasks in someone's home, or with vulnerable people, need an enhanced DBS check and are done in pairs.
• You see a person's address only once you are confirmed, and their phone number only on the day.
• Volunteers never take money or gifts for their help.

PRIVACY
We only ask for what we need to match you with tasks. The app does not track your location. It uses your postcode instead. There are no ads and we never sell your data. You can delete your account in the app at any time.

Yarım Hurma is free. It is a Cambridge Local Community initiative. You can use it in English, Turkish or Arabic.
