Garmin Smartphone Link

Smartphone Link creates a seamless navigation experience between a compatible Garmin personal navigator and an Android smartphone. It allows the devices to share information, such as saved and recently found locations, where you parked, and your current destination. It also links your compatible nüvi to Garmin Live Services, such as traffic, and weather using your smartphone's current mobile data plan.*

Smartphone Link works with select Bluetooth®-enabled 2012 and 2013 Garmin devices, including the RV 760, nüvi 2475, 2495, 2595, 2595, 3490, 3590, 2417, 2517, 2597, 2467, 2567, 2797, 2497, 2577, 2598LMTHD, and 3597**. Some of these nüvi models require a software update, available at www.garmin.com/myDashboard.

Works, sorta I own a Kenwood DNX691HD, works great when it wants to. The other half its either freezing my unit or not recognizing. Uninstalled no more issues.

Data Connection Why does it only use the data connection? Why not a Wifi connection, or _any_ connection? I have another device with a North America data plan, which my phone connects to (Wifi hotspot).

Good but buggy It works great in that I can send addresses directly from my appointments on my Android device. However, from time to time it locks the GPS and keeps it searching even when I am not using the app, end up having to force close so it doesn't kill my battery

Drains phone pretty quick, too much in app purchases As the title suggests. Need to keep your phone charging while using this app. I wish it was more "on demand" instead of always linking every time I use GPS, I don't always have data where I'm driving... It seems to by default run in the background on my phone, using resources. Also wish it didn't override the built-in, blue tooth hands-free of my car, the little garmin GPS doesn't hold a candle to the quality phone calls of the car audio. Other than that it's a great idea.
