Coverage Mapper

Coverage Mapper

Coverage Mapper is a crowd sourced cellular signal strength mapping application.

Coverage Mapper will record and submit cellular signal strength data to a central server, to generate accurate coverage maps for your provider.

Please check out the website (http://www.coveragemapper.com), preferably on a computer, to get a better understanding of the application before downloading it.

As you travel with the application running, it records your device's signal strength, tied to your current location. This data is all uploaded to a central server, where it is aggregated with the data from other users, and averaged into accurate coverage maps that show not just where a provider has coverage, but also how good the coverage is.

This is a beta application. Please report any issues on the forum or by email.

Since this question is frequently asked, install to SD is not an option, because Coverage Mapper runs as a background service, which cannot be moved to the SD card.

This is really helping find black spots in my area. Great to be able to look at a real world coverage map, not the providers "hopeful" coverage map

It worked for a day then stopped working on my Google Nexus 5 Use this app when you are driving around in your car, bus or train. The app crashes when you look at the map. The bad thing is that it takes hours to update the map. Another bad thing is that you need to leave the screan on so it can record your posiotion.

Does not work. Uploaded data do not show on the map I've used this over a month time to time, accepting the fact this drains battery quickly. The app has collected information of cell ids and when uploaded it doesn't complain. But never the visited areas and their coverage show later on the map.

An Amazing Service, But No Longer on the Cutting Edge What this app does is revolutionary, and it was one of the first I ever found on Android to accurately and easily log coverage information. I don't like apps that won't let you run their service in the background, but this one does! That being said, Sensorly in particular among its competition offers a lot more features. This app could be more popular if it were updated and brought into the present. :)

A great concept, that still needs a little work. The concept behind this is brilliant - capture a user's mobile device signal strength and display it on a map to give other users Real World coverage maps... But in practice, this depends largely on where you reside - Australia for example, has very little data. There is also a few design quirks - for example, the guide to the colors is only on an external Web site, the screen must be left on and only the first SIM in dual-SIM mobile devices is read. It's a start, but more work is needed...
