PCDB SuDoku Solver aims to help you solve Killer SuDoku and SuDuko games. You can enter games by hand, and save them for re-use. You can then ask the app to solve the game, or solve it yourself using information and tools provided by the app.
Because of the amount of information it can present to you, it only runs on tablet devices with a minimum size of 1024x600.
It was originally designed to solve the games published by The Times newspaper, and to date has solved every Times game that has been tried on it. This is most Killer SuDoku games from 2009 and most SuDoku games since November 2004.
SuDoku is a game that uses a 9 x 9 grid, split into nine 3 x 3 “boxes” . The aim of the game is to place the digits 1 to 9 into the grid so that each digit occurs once and once
only in each Row, Column and Box. Some digits are already included in the grid, and the objective is to use these to fill in the remaining Cells.
In a Killer SuDoku game, no digits are included in the grid. Instead, the grid is partitioned into a number of “groups” of up to nine touching Cells, usually represented by a dotted line enclosing the Cells or by use of different colours for each Group. No digit can be repeated within such a Group, so a Group is limited to nine Cells. The sum of all the digits in the Group is given, usually printed in the top left-most Cell in the Group. The objective is to use these the layout of these Groups, and their sums, to work out the digits in each Cell, subject to the standard SuDoku rules about each digit being unique in each Row, Column or Block.
The app uses strict logic to solve games of either type, and assumes that there is a single unique solution.
The app doesn't have a store of games of its own. It is aimed at helping you solve those you find in newspapers, magazines and books of puzzles.
It does include a full Help file, and further support is available at www.pcdbdev.com
Version 188.8.131.522 brings the use of buttons and styles in line with Android standards for Ice Cream Sandwich, and makes minor changes to main screen layout.
