User reviews of TapeMachine Recorder
A superb app. I use it mainly for getting composition ideas down with the guitar, before I forget them. Because this often involves playing that's sketchy, a dubbing feature would be nice. And easily implemented! The editing features allow for selecting a range in material already recorded (this is simple and great for deletion, etc.). If this range could be the dub range, it'd be awesome. Just select the range to be dubbed, then start recording somewhere before the range. Play through with the recording, and it would dub automatically when it gets to the range, ending dubbing at end of range. For me, that would make this the perfect tool.

Works great on a locked, unroot AT&T Samsung Captivate! Now, that said, it has locked-up on me a time or two... and I don't mean an elegant forced closed; rather, I mean an ugly freeze, requiring battery removal, boot-up, cache and history cleaning, and then an orderly shutdown and boot-up again. Twice. However, both times it was after recording, deleting, recording, fiddling, changing settings, recording, deleting, recording, deleting, converting, testing... really putting the software through its paces. So I'm not sure it's fair to say that it behaved badly. As another commenter posted, it does need some RAM and processor cycles. If ever there were a time to run a task killer, it's immediately before launching this app... though, don't get me wrong, it's not necessary... just advisable. It's also a good idea to have pretty much everything else closed -- no other things going on in the foreground -- before launching this app... though, again, it's not absolutely necessary, just advisable. Another thing I noticed helps keep this app running smoothly is recording in lossy file formats, like 128K MP3... nice small file sizes. This is a medium- to heavy-weight app, and most smartphone are light- to mediaum-weight computers. That's just a fact; and those who have trouble with this app may simply have underpowered devices. Of course, knowing that reality, I suppose one could criticize the appmaker for not keeping the app smaller and less resource-intensive. But hardware is quickly -- and I mean QUICKLY -- catching-up, and so it'll soon be moot for most users. I, personally, could not be happier; but then, again, after 35 years in IT, I know how to spot a resource-intensive program when I see one, and I know how to respond. So I'm not having one bit of a problem with the app under normal use. Others' mileage may vary. I could not more strongly recommend this app... er... I mean... for those who need its specific feature set. Whether or not what the other commenter here say is true -- about the app's maker sending nasty emails to those who dare to crticize -- I don't know. I DO know, however, that the app's maker is apparently sufficiently immature and unprofessional that s/he thinks it's okay to use the F-word in a setting such as this, above. One could make the argument that if s/he can stoop to that, then who knows to what else s/he might stoop. None of that, however, has anything to do with how good of a programmer s/he obviously is; and what a terrific job s/he has done with this app. Kudos to him/her for that. That said, I say to the app maker, lose the F-word. It speaks volumes about you... the wrong kind of volumes.

I bought this app, it works and it is pretty good, although it features two big problems: 1. the Input Gain can be only increased not decreased down zero dB (e.g. when you're recording a live concert it will be just recorded completely distorted if you cannot move down, let's say to -9 or -12 the Input Gain) and 2. THE SUPPORT EMAIL IS A FAKE! THE DEVELOPER SIMPLY DOES NOT CARE OF ANY YOUR QUESTION AND OR INFO... HE JUST DOES NOT CARE N-O-T-H-I-N-G!! This is in my experience after I sent 4-5 imes emails... never got answer... never!

WHEN the app works, it works well. But, apparently you will need a minimum of RAM to run this app - there is no indication as to how much RAM one might need, however. This dev is a bit on the strange side. I have heard stories that he tries to figure out who is making bad comments, and then sends them rather rude emails about it. Really!? ANY app that costs more than 5.00 is fair game for bitches - get used to it and grow a pair. In the description, the Dev says he doesn't read comments. If that is so, then how does he know that some comments are bad? He finds an issue, and then doesn't put the workaround or the caveat in the app description - that's just ridiculous.-----I was curious about the app sometimes recording when the phone is locked and sometimes not, MANY complaints over that issue crop up from time to time. What has me wondering about it is: If Angry Birds can manage to steal 15 to 25 MB of Phone RAM in order to run, why can't this app do it - thereby relieving any Buffering issues reported by the dev - he answered his own question on this issue and still has not tackled the RAM borrowing technique that Rovio has no problem doing.----And it is NOT an issue of multi-tasking vs game play.-----But, remember, this app works well when you have that RAM, but as with ALL recording apps, it writes to your SD card like a mutha, so there's some thrashing going on there a bit [that is fixable by just buying a newer than six months' old SD card - the newer ones handle thrashing much more effectively, and soon there will be SD-card-sized SSD drives to replace SD cards]

Freezes when screen locked. Really, one of the best of the Recording apps out there (Right up there with Rehearsal Recorder!). However, I have noticed that Angry Birds (and all other games as well) can command high amounts of Android RAM to run, in excess of 65 MB, so why cant this program do the same? There is no Android or Google rule that says only Games can do this. With this added component in the design of the app, Out of Memory issues that would plague most apps - cause them to freeze or stop - would cease. Food for thought.

Fantastic app and wonderful Dev team! I had this app on my old phone and had no issues what so ever. Loved the app so much that I even purchased it for better control (worth ever penny) and to support the team. Recently upgraded my phone and had some issues. Emailed the team and they had a fix within a week! I use it to record my music, ideas, and as a play back for my band students for assessment. Get it, you'll love to!
