Description
The Alert SA App is the official mobile application of the South Australian Government, designed to provide timely and relevant information on a range of hazards. Stay informed and prepared with alerts and warnings for:
· Fires
· Heatwaves
· Severe weather
· Floods
· Hazardous materials
Additionally, receive important Fire Danger Rating and Total Fire Ban information via the app.
With the Alert SA App, you can create up to 10 watch zones to receive notifications about hazards occurring in areas of interest to you. The app uses your mobile device’s GPS location and requires an internet connection to receive data.
Key Features:
Multi-Hazard Alerts: Receive notifications for various hazards, including fire, flood, severe weather, hazardous materials, and heatwaves.
Customizable Watch Zones: Set up to 10 watch zones to get alerts for specific areas.
Accessibility: Fully supports large text and voiceover features to ensure you receive information in a way that suits your needs.
Cross-Border Notifications: Get fire warnings within 100km of the border of neighbouring states and territories.
Modern User Interface: Enjoy a new, intuitive design with a dedicated onboarding screen and improved user experience.
Please note that during emergencies and extreme weather events, such as bushfires, floods, or severe storms, telecommunications services may be unreliable.
As a result, you may not receive timely information while using the app. The South Australian Fire and Emergency Services Commission (SAFECOM), the South Australian Country Fire Service (CFS), the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS), and the South Australian State Emergency Service (SES) recommend that you do not rely on any one single source of information during an emergency.
Download the Alert SA App today and stay informed about public information and warnings in South Australia.

You can now opt-in to receive notifications for Emergency Warning Messages (the highest level of warning) even when your phone is on silent or do-not-disturb mode
Sandbag collection locations and Relief and Recovery Centres will also be displayed when they are in operation.

The app is quite basic, essentially a CFS map in app form. Pros: Quick updates Displays Fire bans Shows all current CFS incidents and warnings Cons: Lacks fire direction or warning areas during fires All fire statuses (Going, Contained, Complete) use the same plain white icon Suggestions: Add power outage info, earthquake alerts (2.0+), and river level/flooding updates for a more comprehensive experience.

Great to keep informed of emergencies and warnings of incidents. Thanks

This is a must-have app, especially for Hills residents! I'd like to see the realtime wind direction added to the maps so in the event of a bushfire, you can see at a glance (without jumping between other apps) if you're in the path of the fire or not. .

A fine free, and easy to use tool for real-time, localized, emergency alerts such as fires, trees down, floods, and severe weather in SA. Though I do wish it also included major vehicle accidents, so we know of traffic issues

Update - 2026, have had to uninstall this app due to causing problems with jamming the lock screen when a notification comes through. The help team tell me it's because my phone is too old, even though dozens of other apps all work fine without jamming the lock screen. I don't think this is an acceptable answer. Also, no way to turn off unwanted warnings about heatwaves, which also cause jamming problems. Do yourself a favor and avoid this app, download "SA Fires" instead.

Alert SA could at least let you know about a fire in your area sooner than 20 mins after the fact. This goes for other areas also I get notifications after the incident is complete not good enough.

Not happy with this app. I live in a fire risk area. This app doesn't give me all information I need which I can get on CFS app like the level of emergency, how many appliances on site, how many aircraft assist, a map showing constant updates of area burned full updates of action needed to be taken. We have a perfectly good app with CFS which is downloaded on cfs. That doesn't just continue to list every emergency service response as they are called out making it hard to find just the cfs info

The alerts are still too 'spammy'. I don't want alerts about heat waves. I know when we are experiencing a heatwave. I am not a freakin idiot! There should be a way to turn these off. All I want is alerts for bushfires. Also, when I have multiple watch zones configured, there are too many duplicate alerts, especially when a zone crosses fire districts.
