Anatolian Horror Stories

Four horror stories from Anatolian folklore in one game: Al Karısı, Destur, Gulyabani and Perde. Each one is a complete first-person tale with its own setting, its own creature and its own way to play.

Everyone who grew up in Anatolia has heard these stories. Iron under the pillow. A red ribbon on the cradle. Say "destur" before you step through a dark doorway. And never answer when a familiar voice calls your name in the night.

AL KARISI — THE CRADLE
November 1958. Şıhlar, a silent mountain village near Alanya. Your son is three days old, and the Al has come for him — Al Karısı (Al Karisi) in Turkish, Albasty in the steppes. With only a flashlight and a few batteries, search the empty houses for the protective charms of folk tradition and guard the cradle until the dawn call to prayer. The Al fears the light, but every second drains your batteries.

DESTUR — THE BATHHOUSE
February 1962. An old hammam in a small Anatolian town. Tonight the women held a bridal bath for your sister Gülizar. Now it is past midnight, the furnace is dying, and from inside the locked bathhouse come wooden clogs, a frame drum, a wedding song… and your sister's voice. The jinn of the hamam have chosen a bride. At every threshold, ask permission.

GULYABANI — THE WINTER INN
A winter night at a snowbound inn. One of the guests is not human. Question them, weigh their answers and work out who the Gulyabani is before the night is over.

PERDE — THE LAMENT
A murder mystery that listens to you. Perde reacts to the sounds you make through your microphone. Use them to uncover the truth and find the killer.
