Astrarium is a bullet hell space shooter you play with one thumb. You fly 100 levels through a night sky built like a great brass clock, take on 34 bosses, and turn the enemy's bullets into gold.
No energy, no waiting, no loot boxes, and nothing to buy that makes you stronger.
HOW IT PLAYS
• Drag to fly. Your ship flies above your thumb and moves further than your thumb does, so a short move takes it far. It fires by itself.
• Only the small bright core of your ship can be hit. Let bullets pass close: every one that crosses the gold ring around the core charges your Overdrive, your special attack.
• Fire the Overdrive and every bullet on the screen turns into gold.
• Lift your thumb and time stands still. Find the gap, then fly on.
100 LEVELS, 34 BOSSES
• 16 skies, each with its own enemies, its own music and its own tricks: darkness lit only by lanterns, curtains of sand with one wandering gap, meteors whose shadows show where they will fall.
• Every third level, a constellation boss of brass and pearls: Scorpius, Draco, Leo, Hercules, Gemini and more. Some are mazes of turning wheels and running chains that you fly through, because no shot can break them.
• At level 100 waits the Astrarium itself, the hardest fight in the game.
UPGRADES YOU PICK
After each level you pick one of three upgrades. 54 upgrades in six kinds change how you shoot, dodge, collect and survive, and three or five of one kind unlock bonus powers. Every 12 levels your upgrades start over, and you keep one of them for the rest of the game.
SIX SHIPS
Polaris, balanced. Vega, a wide fan of shots. Antares, slow and heavy. Sirius, with wings that hunt on their own. Altair, small and quick. Deneb, strongest up close. Unlock them with Starlight, the reward you earn in every level.
THE SUPERNOVA
Everything your Overdrive destroys lights one of eight lights around your ship. When all eight are lit, tap the power button and a ring of light sweeps across the whole screen. Or save it, and it blocks the next hit for you.
FROM RELAXED TO NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE
The first skies are for everyone. Then every 12 levels bring something new, and the last ten levels are made for shoot 'em up veterans: nearly impossible. Lose a level and you fly it again right there, with more shields every time. Want more time to react? Switch on the gentler pace.
MUSIC THAT PLAYS ALONG
Every sky has its own theme, sung by a choir. The music grows with your combo, and every piece of gold you collect plays a note in the key of the song.
FAIR BY DESIGN
• The whole game is free to play.
• Ads only when you choose to watch one for a reward, never during a level. For example: after a lost level, one ad gives you two shields so you can keep going.
• One optional purchase, Patron, to support us: you get every reward without watching an ad, plus a special aurora trail behind your ship.
• Plays offline.
ALSO
• Daily Flight: one short challenge a day, the same for everybody
• Over 50 small goals to earn
• Three bullet colours chosen with colour blindness in mind, a calm screen option (fewer flashes, no shaking) and automatic Overdrive
• Portrait, one hand, playable on a bus
• English and German
Recent changes:
New: the Nebula set, a paint and a glowing trail for every ship (looks only), in the paint shop, which now also opens from the Atlas.
After a cleared level, a short video of your choice lets you keep two of the three cards (Patrons take two with one touch). A fourth shield opened during an expedition now joins your ship at once.
Also: clearer words after a lost level and for Second Wind.
