Description
Have you ever wondered where your nearest mobile phone tower was? What services does it support? How fast are the 4G Internet speeds in your area? How far does the signal reach? Which is the best phone provider for you? Is 5G available in your area?
If so, this app is for you!
Updated regularly with the latest tower information from the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), this app presents all you ever wanted to know about your local mobile phone towers in a fun and interactive format.
The app includes details of Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, NBN, TPG, TV, pagers, government, CBRS and aviation transmitters! It can identify which towers your phone is using.
Notes:
The Follow GPS feature (on the top toolbar) will cause the screen to relocate to your current position every 5 seconds and the screen will stay on. Use this feature while traveling but turn it off when you just want to explore other towers manually.
The app data is downloaded from https://web.acma.gov.au/
This application will monitor the cell tower connected to your phone to assist in displaying tower information to you. Tower and phone information is sent to our servers and to OpenCellID / Mozilla Location Services. A marker will be added to your map view when this happens. No personally identifiable information is collected, other than your Android Id and your location.
A menu option was recently added to allow you to adjust the Timing Advance (TA) size, which is the orange circle drawn on the map, as some phones report the TA normally and some report it at half the correct size. If the orange circle isn't the correct size on the map to cross through the location of your phone's tower, then try the alternate Timing Advance size setting. This is now automatically selected but can still be manually changed.
Unfortunately, some older Samsung devices (including the S6) do not implement all network interfaces correctly (or at all) so you will find some features will not work. This is mainly limited to the current network frequencies but may also prevent detection of which tower you are using. This is a firmware problem so only Samsung can fix this. You can still use this app to browse the local towers.

Comments on Aus Phone Towers (3G,4G,5G) for Android
★★★★☆James Leech· Mar 29, 2025
Love it! I love the details the app provides, like bearing direction, distance, height & % of confidence which is great as I use a directional antenna. I use this app multiple times a week, sometimes multiple times a day when searching for new towers while travelling to new places in Australia. I'd give 5 stars if... a) the app could work offline, d/load an area POI, in case you arrive in a place unplanned w/out reception, b) if app preferences (carrier, 2G,3G,4G etc. etc.) are saved.

Hi bit bot. The man I emailed last time I was in your home city named after citrus fruits.... We want to learn about the greyed out towers? They get great connection, but can't use your GIS data propagation signal map. Can you explain why many Telstra tower are greyed out? I want to learn

Review; I love it Questions; When travelling I would like to look up tower info for a location that I am not presently at. I may get there and have no signal to use the app, so I don't know if it is worth setting up the directional antenna. How do I set location?

This app has help me find out a lot about optus and telstra and the best signal for me ✨️💓

This app does not show the direction of your current tower. It shows the most likely based on distance. Useless app.
★☆☆☆☆Nathan Harris· Jun 29, 2025
Not for everyone, intended for industry professionals I guess. App seems to be perfect for identifying mobile towers until you use it. The lack of any kind of guide or user manual beggars belief-unsure how to interpret results or if assumption is correct so really app is beyond pointless if no idea how to use or interpret. Also, if provider coverage is shown as red overlay why TF would one opt for red font for associated data under overlay? It's invisible. Could be great but less than ordinary.

None of the information on towers is appearing as it did when I first installed it. It just provides a map with no cell tower data

1 Star for running at startup. There's absolutely NO reason for this app to load at startup!
