Description
How can computers learn to recognize birds from sounds? The BirdNET research project uses artificial intelligence and neural networks to train computers to identify more than 3,000 of the most common species worldwide. You can record a file using the microphone of your Android device and see if BirdNET correctly identifies the probable bird species present in your recording. Get to know the birds around you and help us to collect observations by submitting your recordings.
BirdNET is a joint project of the K. Lisa Yang Center for Conservation Bioacoustics at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and Chemnitz University of Technology.

I have alot of birds in my area and this app will identify them. The app is very easy to navigate. I have it right on my home screen and with in 2 taps it's recording the bird sounds. Love it

How can one delete ALL recordings in one go. Can only delete one by one, which can take a long time One suggestion. The exported WAV files has only the date of export. It would be good if the date of recording is also in the WAV file, and also perhaps the lat/long, interpreted bird and reliability be in the WAV file headers.

This app has been a game changer for me, a novice birder who often goes out by myself. Many thanks for developing this for Android! Update (2026) - After having this on my phone for 5 years, I now use Merlin more because of its real-time ID capability, even when offline. However, Bird Net can sometimes ID a bird that Merlin doesn't recognize. Also in Bird Net, you highlight a defined part of the recording with just the calls you want, often eliminating the need to use other editing software.

Only picks up a fraction of the birds at any one time. Misidentified black cap as garden warbler and song thrush as mistle thrush. Merlin Bird ID is much, much better.

All my phone records are static and crunchy noises. Even if I can catch a bird song, the static makes it unidentifiable. I've tried multiple settings. Videos can clearly capture all sounds with no issue.

Just downloaded it and I'm just deleting it. It is way too complicated to use and doesn't do what I wanted to do. I just wanted to record a bird song and identify the bird not all that other stuff.

Doesn't work, a crow or raven in the garden, opened app & says a Canada goose, then a human voice. Really
