Candle Rook Lamps

Candle Rook Lamps is a quiet lantern-lighting puzzle drawn like a page from an old printer's manual: cream paper, ink-black walls and hard-edged amber beams.

Every room is a grid of pale floor tiles and solid walls. Set a lamp on a floor tile and it lights its own square plus four straight beams, running up, down, left and right until a wall or the edge of the room stops the light dead. Your job is easy to state and delightfully stubborn to finish: light every single floor tile.

Two rules keep you honest. No lamp may see another lamp, so if two lamps share a row or a column with nothing between them they are staring at each other and both flag red. And a wall showing a number must touch exactly that many lamps, counting only up, down, left and right, never diagonally. Blank walls ask nothing of you.

BUILT TO BE QUIET
This is a completely offline app. It never uses the internet. There is no account, no sign-up, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking of any kind. There is also no sound at all, not a click and not a chime. The only feedback beyond the artwork is a short optional haptic tick you can switch off. Play it on a plane, on a train, in a waiting room or in bed without disturbing anybody.

Nothing is locked, nothing is timed against you and there is nothing to buy. Every room, every size and every award is available from the first launch.

The board is drawn entirely from vector shapes, so it stays crisp on any screen, and the warm paper palette is kind to the eyes in a dim room.

If you enjoy sudoku, nonograms or minesweeper, this is a different animal: pure deduction about light and sight lines, with no arithmetic and no luck involved.
