Cavet: Minimal Search Launcher

Cavet is a minimal search launcher for Android, built on one idea: you already know what you want, so type it.

Your home screen opens with the search bar focused and the keyboard up. Two letters usually get you there — the app, the person, the meeting, the setting. One universal search for the whole phone, built into the launcher instead of added on top of it.

IT LEARNS, QUIETLY
Your most-used apps sit above the empty search field. The launcher remembers which result you picked for which query, so the second time you type "yt", YouTube is already first. Pin apps, shortcuts, contacts and settings pages where they never move. Optionally, apps that fit the hour or your headphones fill the last spots.

GESTURES AND THE ACCESSIBILITYSERVICE API
Some gesture actions — notification shade, quick settings, recent apps, lock screen, screenshot, power menu — are system actions Android lets no ordinary app perform. Cavet performs them through the AccessibilityService API, via an optional service called "Cavet gestures".

The service is off until you enable it yourself in Android's accessibility settings, after the app has shown you what it does. Once on, it performs those actions on the gesture you assigned, and nothing else. It subscribes to no accessibility events, cannot read your screen, and collects, stores and shares no data. Turn it off any time; gestures that open an app, the search or the drawer work without it.

PRIVACY
Everything stays on your device. No accounts, no profiles, no analytics, no ads.

The launcher reaches the network for exactly three things — web search suggestions while you type, currency exchange rates, and the weather for a place you type in — and you can switch each of them off. Suggestions and weather stay off until you turn them on. Notifications are counted, never read.
