Works to restore apps and data, including home screen placement and positioning, but not all apps. For me maybe only 20%. Description states "This system app can transfer data from your old phone and is automatically installed on your Pixel phone. Please don't install this app." So why is this displayed in App Store? Opened automatically as part of set up of "new" (previously owned but factory reset) Pixel 4.

In the about app details it clearly states" please do not install this app"... It's automatic when u get a new phone on start up Samsung or any affiliated device 2 set up Google ACCOUNT ran phones. After reading these reviews I was laughing how stupid the ppl r! U must BACK UP everything to ur Google ACCOUNT FIRST in order to TRANSFER DATA. What u LAST SYNCED IN back up is WHAT WILL BE TRANSFERRED! IT RUNS ON START/SET UP ONLY! Not for when u decide to! GOOGLE ACCOUNT USE

Tried to download the app to transfer files from an older LG V60. The target phone is a new Google Pixel 9A. This is a Google phone. Why wouldn't a Google transfer app install on a Google phone?

Don't even want to install on either Pixel 5 or 7. Google is great at laying off its workforce, and now we have to deal with this kind of poor behavior on premium phones.

Really sucks that they neutered their working backup solution in the name of security. Here's a tip: blind security is secondary to necessary functionality. If the user wishes to back up their data, that needs to be a priority above all else. Encrypt it, make it only work with Safety Net, whatever you have to do to make the backup secure - but backups *must* function properly for other security measures to make sense. If a phone dies, a proper, full backup *must* exist.
