TASCAM DR CONTROL is an app that allows you to control the DR-22WL/DR-44WL Linear PCM Recorders remotely via Wi-fi. Enjoy handy recording on the DR-22WL/DR-44WL with a smartphone or tablet without the location restictions of a computer.
TASCAM DR CONTROL allows you to remotely control recording levels, filter settings, file organizing and file transfer from DR-22WL/DR-44WL to your smartphone or tablet device. Also you can choose the connection from two different type: - “VIA ROUTER” mode enables the wireless remote control operation by connecting your smartphone or tablet device to a Wi-Fi router installed in a studio or at home. Remote control is operable with email, map, or other apps and online services at the same time - “TO DEVICE” mode allows direct, one-to-one connection with the DR-22WL/DR-44WL, and so the remote control function works in the outdoor environment where Wi-Fi router is not available
The Version 2.0 firmware can be freely downloaded on the TASCAM’s website or on the App, letting the users to update their DR-22WL/DR-44WL on their own. The TASCAM DR CONTROL app can also be installed or updated for free.

I've very recently bought a DR-22WL overall I would say it's a really good piece of kit and at £108 (from GAK) it's great value for money... it's just a real shame that one of its key selling points is the Wi-Fi and remote control app, but it doesn't work reliably!!! The PC app I cannot get to work at all!!! In the first instant I'm finding that it will not transfer files reliable if powered by batteries, even new fresh quality Duracell's! If the DR is powered via USB then file transfer is much more reliable but also subject to crashing. There is an additional problem in that the App when transferring files does not keep my mobile (Galaxy Edge 7) awake, it falls asleep, as they do, and drops the Wi-Fi link!!! OK, so in my particular application I 'could' keep the DR powered via USB... except I cannot, because of power supply switching inducing noise on the recording! So the cycle is, unplug the USB while recording, doing that the Wi-Fi drops out! Now I've got a recording to transfer, and I've got to kick the Wi-Fi back into gear!!! There is more but no more space in this review! Come on Ta scam guys... it's 'almost' a good product... make it GREAT and fix it!!!

I'm running on a Pixel3 latest Android. It needed an update. I connect my dr22wl to my home router and control it from this app. I am able to record myself playing guitar, listen to the result, download and manage the audio files and WhatsApp the audio file to my friends. The functionality is great for musicians recording themselves. No bugs so far, great simple user interface, 5 stars

New version installed April 2017 seems to be an improvement over previous incarnation. Installed with the firmware version 2.10 on the DR-44WL it seems more stable. Being able to place recorder in the best place and then having metering in sight is very useful. Transferring files to your phone for listening is quick and easy. It means you have your most recent recordings on your mobile to listen to straightaway. Pleased the app and firmware are improved.

Will not connect.Wi-Fi is useless.ive loaded it 3 times & it will never connect to my brand-new phone, w out Wi-Fi i could've bought any other recorder for less.junk

This app could be so much more and, by extension, the DR-44WL could be so much more. Why is there no auto sync of new files from DR-44WL to my Android phone (or maybe a push notification asking if I'd like to upload the latest recording)? Why isn't there automatic cloud upload of new files to Dropbox or Google Drive? When I search DR-44WL's files from the app, why are the oldest files at the top instead of the newest ones forcing everyone to scroll all the way down to get to the newest files (and why isn't there an option to toggle how the list is organized)? There's glaring issues with usability in this app and limited functionality. It makes the app a chore to use and far less useful. I can't recommend this. Oh and it hasn't been updated for 7 months as of this review. Come on Ta scam, this is so close to being a useful amazing product! Everyone wants this app to be great, and nearly every customer is telling you that it currently isn't.

The ta scam recorder (DR22-WL) I have is great, and when the app works it works well. However, it hardly ever works properly. The Wi-Fi connection from the device to my phone(s), across multiple android gens., constantly drops, and I lose all control from the app. After that, getting it to reconnect becomes an even bigger chore for some reason. Please fix this. The recorder is great for getting live sound scratch tracks and it would be so much better if the control app worked properly.

Wi-Fi functionality is zero with latest firmware and device will not allow rolling back to previous version.
