By 26 Branding Agency Inc., from Google Play“Interval names in semitones, short form and full name, plus a 13-choice quiz.”
Description by 26 Branding Agency Inc. Written by the developer, not by AppBrain. Click to read.
NAME ANY INTERVAL
Choose a low note and a high note from the three octaves between C3 and B5, thirty-six chromatic notes in all. EarWise gives you the answer three ways at once:
- The distance in semitones, so you can count it and check yourself
- The short form musicians write on a page, such as m3, P5 or M7
- The full name, such as minor third, perfect fifth or major seventh
It names every interval under an octave, from the minor second at one semitone to the major seventh at eleven, and it names the tritone at six for what it is rather than skipping past it. A short reference screen explains in plain words what an interval is and what octave reduction means, which is the piece most students are missing when the numbers stop making sense.
DRILL IT WITH THE QUIZ
The quiz picks two notes at random, from one semitone up to a full octave apart, and shows you the pair. You name the interval from thirteen choices, unison through perfect octave. The answer comes back the moment you tap, correct or not, with the full name spelled out so the right answer is the last thing you read. Pull a new question as fast as you can answer them, and keep going for as long as you want. There is no lesson to sit through and no level to unlock first.
WHY INTERVAL RECOGNITION MATTERS
Intervals are the unit music theory is built from. Chords are stacked intervals, scales are patterns of intervals, and transposing is moving a shape by an interval. A student who has to count semitones on their fingers every time is doing arithmetic instead of reading music. The way past that is repetition on small questions, which is exactly what this is.
WHO IT IS FOR
- Music students revising intervals for a theory exam
- Beginners who want to put a name to the gap between two notes
- Guitarists and pianists who can play a fifth but cannot yet name one at a glance
- Teachers who want a drill their students can do on a bus in two minutes
- Anyone coming back to theory after years away from it
DESIGNED TO BE OPENED FOR TWO MINUTES
EarWise loads straight into the interval it is showing. Nothing to set up, no account to create, no streak to protect. Open it, answer a few, close it.
PRIVATE AND OFFLINE
EarWise makes no network requests. There is no account, no sign up, no analytics and no advertising. Nothing you tap leaves your phone, and it works with no signal at all.
EarWise is a naming and recognition drill built on note names and semitone distance. It is a study aid, not a substitute for lessons.
