Description
EB Dirigo is a free multi-purpose navigation app based on high-quality OpenStreetMap (OSM) data. You can also contribute to OpenStreetMap and improve the map data by using EB Dirigo to map while you’re on your way and to automatically add traffic signs to the map.
Use EB Dirigo online or offline, as you like. With over a decade of experience in the automotive navigation industry, you can rely on Elektrobit (EB) to find the most convenient route to your destination! EB Dirigo functions:
• Free navigation based on EB navigation technology and OpenStreetMap map material • Mapping functions including traffic sign recognition for OpenStreetMap • Voice guidance in different languages • Point of Interest (POI) search • Speed limits displayed in the map, based on either OSM map data or traffic sign recognition • Route options for freeways , toll roads, walking and cycling • 3D terrain model or 2D map
As we use OSM for this app, we want to give back to the OSM community and provide mappers with additional features beyond navigation: • You can now map while you drive: Simply place your smartphone in the windshield of your car and activate traffic sign recognition in the settings. The app detects speed limits and uploads them to the website ( https://www.ebdirigo.com ) together with your journey. • You can also map spontaneously while you´re out and about: EB Dirigo lets you record voice memos or take pictures of landmarks. Back home, simply go to https://www.ebdirigo.com, log in with your user name and password and see where you have been and what you have recorded. It is already in the map. Then decide if you want to import your nodes to OSM with via iD editor or JOSM.
Our website lets you easily map your collected data into OSM by using the well-known editors of the community. Currently we offer a JOSM plugin and an iD editor integration.

Good OSM navigation app I've tried the app during a trip through Austrian Alps. I consider it a top choice from all the existent OSM free navigation apps.

Pros: works fine, as expected - all needed basic functionality available; good maps / styles; freeware (yet?). Note: a restart after installation was needed to detect system-language and download corresponding TTS-file. After restart the TTS file was downloaded and voice guidance works as well. Contrast: missing possibility to change interface- and voice-guidance language (current system language always used); no route-planing from A to B if A differs from current location.
